CED鈥檚 Caparoso presents SEL research at the 8th Annual ARWA Meeting

Asst. Prof. Vita S. Caparoso, a faculty member of the College of Education (CED), showcased her scholarly contributions at the 8th Annual Meeting of the Association for Reading and Writing (ARWA) held on February 29 to March 1, 2024 at Jeju National University in Jeju Island, South Korea.

Caparoso’s research centered on crucial aspects of education, particularly in literacy and socio-emotional learning (SEL). She looked into the examination of reading attitudes’ influence on academic achievements within the framework of remote learning. Additionally, she explored the assessment of social and emotional competencies among elementary school children, laying the groundwork for a more tailored integration of SEL into literature-based reading programs.

During the conference, Caparoso presented two papers. The first paper, titled “Assessing Social and Emotional Competencies in Elementary School Children: Implications for Integrating SEL into a Literature-based Reading Program,” offers valuable insights into the nexus between SEL development and effective literacy programs. Her second paper, “Examining Reading Attitudes’ Impact on Academic Outcomes: A Remote Learning Perspective,'' delves into the dynamics of remote learning environments and their effects on students’ reading attitudes and achievements.

The ARWA annual meeting serves as a premier platform for scholars, educators, researchers, and students worldwide who share a common commitment to advancing literacy and language development.
