MSU-IIT honors distinguished professors in Physics

MSU-IIT recently honored several professors as honorary and adjunct professors of the Physics Department. Pursuant to 91短视频app破解版BOR Resolution 246, Series 2024, the Physics Department’s faculty roster has been bolstered by the addition of six esteemed appointees. These individuals were formally recognized for their achievements during an online ceremony held on August 20, 2024.

Dr. Jan Mickelle V. Maratas, Dean of CSM, warmly welcomed the event participants with his opening remarks. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Pamela B. Resurrection, representing Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan, shared her message of gratitude during the ceremony. Prof. Joey Genevieve Martinez emphasized the significant value of having honorary appointees at the University, highlighting their contributions to academic prestige, research excellence, and an expanded network of collaborations.

Prof. Christopher C. Bernido of the Research Center in Theoretical Physics, Jagna, and Prof. Rene Garcia-Luna of at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) in Mexico were among those conferred with honorary professorships. Prof. Bernido has been a visiting lecturer in the Physics Department since 2003, specializing in particle and mathematical physics. He was appointed as an honorary professor in 2014, and significantly contributed to the department's research and academic programs.

Since his first visit in 2016, Prof. Garcia-Luna, an expert in High-Energy Physics, Cosmic Rays, and Artificial Intelligence, has made valuable contributions to the Physics Department where he conducted crash courses for the graduate program and has since served as a mentor to students and faculty.

The event also honored Dr. Valerie Ann Samson, Prof. Roland G. Winkler, Dr. Jelly Grace B. Nonesa, and Prof. Tyll Kruger as adjunct professors of the Physics Department. Dr. Samson, an Associate Scientist at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Deputy Director at the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI), played a key role in the MOU between MSU-IIT and PNRI regarding developments related to nuclear energy.

Prof. Winkler, a retired senior researcher from the Forschungszentrum Institute for Advanced Simulation in Julich, Germany, has been a visiting professor at MSU-IIT since 2016.

Prof. Nonesa, the Philippines' first astrophysicist, does research on star-forming regions and dark matter, and Prof. Kruger, from Wroclaw University, is recognized for his contributions to epidemiological modeling, particularly in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The addition of these distinguished professors to the faculty of MSU-IIT underscores the university’s commitment to excellence in research, education, and innovation, fostering global competence among its students and faculty.
