Student Loan

Interest Rate per month: 1%
Maximum amount granted to each borrower: Php1,000

Loan Rules: Any duly enrolled and bonafide student of MSU-IIT, with no outstanding account with the Student Loan Fund may apply for this loan.The loan is to be used for educational expenses (school supplies, books, board, tuition fee and similar expenses).

Student Assistantship

The program provides poor but deserving students the opportunity to work at most 100 hours per month, and offers the following privileges: hourly compensation rate of P10.00 or a maximum of P1,000 per month; exempted from payment of upgraded tuition fees, free book rental, miscellaneous and revised laboratory fees except student council, student publication, student insurance and medical assistance fees. The student assistantship applicants must been a student of the Institute for at least one semester carrying a minimum academic load of twelve (12) units, must have no failing grades during the immediately preceding semester and must have no record of misconduct.

Office Assistantship

The program has been implemented since June, 2001. The Office Assistantship program tries to address the need of colleges and units for services that can be rendered/delivered by students who possess certain skills like using a computer, recording and filing. The office assistantship applicants must be junior or graduating students carrying a minimum academic load of twelve (12) units, must have no failing grades during the immediately preceding semester and must have no record of misconduct. They will be compensated at the rate of P15.00 per hour but not to exceed 100 hours per month.

Teaching Assistantship

Introduced in June, 2000, the student teaching assistantship program was conceived in order to help address the issue of managing extremely large classes, that is, those with over 55 students per class. The teaching assistants are junior or graduating students who are hired and compensated at the rate of P15.00 per hour of actual service but not to exceed 100 hours/month, in order to assist instructors and professors of large classes in correcting test papers, checking class attendance, maintaining order in the classroom and proctoring exams, among other academic-related activities. To qualify, applicants must carry the normal academic load, pass in all subjects during the semester immediately preceding their selection, have no grade lower that 2.5 in major subjects and have no record of misconduct.

Like the student assistantship and special grants program, the teaching assistantship is being administered by the Department of Student Affairs.

Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES)

In coordination and collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), SPES likewise provides poor but deserving students the opportunity to work and earn the minimum wage during the summer months of April and May, 60% of which is paid by the Institute and 40% by DOLE.

Special Grants (Dance, Theater Arts, Choral Singing and Performing Band)

The Special Grantees are entitled to benefits such as a monthly allowance of P400.00 and exemption from payment of upgraded tuition and miscellaneous and revised laboratory fees, among others. In return, the grantees are required to have a GPA 2.75 or better at the end of the semester and carry a minimum academic load of twelve units.

On Student External Residence (Lodging Houses and Dormitories)

OSDS assists students in locating lodging houses, especially freshmen coming from far places. The office maintains a directory of lodging houses which shows the following information: name of lodging houses, its distance or location, total capacity, occupants per room, number of rooms, CR, bath room and other facilities open for use by the student lodgers.

The KASAMA (College Student Council) adopted a new constitution that was ratified on March 7, 2000.Under the new constitution, key KASAMA officers such as the President, Vice-President and twelve (12) senators who are elected at large + two (2) Assembly persons per college. The College Executive Council is composed of Governor, Vice Governor and 8 Board members.

The KASAMA general elections were held in February. The elections were conducted by the KASAMA COMELEC whose ex-officio Chairman is the OSDS Director.

Section 2.e of Article X of the KASAMA constitution provides that, “The officers to be elected in every department, where there is no existing department organization, shall be the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor, Social Manager and Year Level Representatives who shall be elected within the first three weeks of every first semester.
