Reasearch Agenda and Priorities

As a publicly-funded university, one of the mandates of MSU-IIT is to contribute to the national and societal goals through the conduct of interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, collaborative, and/or independent studies, the University鈥檚 Research Agenda are encapsulated in the following broad categories:

ICT: software development for various applications (enrolment system, financial/ accounting system, research monitoring system, intelligent support system for health services); integration of ICT in teaching; on-line learning systems.

BIOTECHNOLOGY: Drug and nutraceutical discovery and development; application of bioinformatics for taxonomic studies, data-mining, database development for ethnobotanical and indigenous knowledge systems; genomic DNA library construction of local bioresources and gene discovery; bioremediation; industrial enzymes; biosafety and ethical implications of biotechnology; value chain analysis of biotechnological products.

MATERIAL SCIENCE: Engineered bamboo; nanotechnology applications of biomaterials; local clay materials for ceramics development; solid waste recycling; biopolymers; value chain analysis of new materials.

HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT: Cancer surveillance among Institute constituents; dengue transmission and control; climate change and health; health-seeking behaviour and practices; mental health issues; food nutritive value fortification and safety; ethnobotany and biodiversity; maternal and child health; social dimensions of HIV/AIDS control; disaster risk reduction and management.

RENEWABLE ENERGY: Bioenergy production; non-conventional power generation (solar, wind, others); biodegradation systems for energy production; academe-industry partnerships in energy research and production.

PEACE AND GOVERNANCE: Governance issues in health and environmental management; Political issues and implications in energy commercialization and distribution; contextualization of science and technology for the promotion of peace among multi-cultural communities; cultural, religious and linguistic studies; conflict management.

GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT: Gender equality; GAD sensitivity and awareness; men’s and women’s health issues, Gender opportunities to eliminate gender gaps, gender empowerment.

DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND MANAGEMENT: Disaster geo-informatics; robotics for disaster; hazard assessment; disaster risk management
