Economics Department

The Department of Economics offers two (2) programs in economics namely: Bachelor of Science in Economics (BS Econ) and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Business Economics (BSBA-BE). Courses are handled by highly competent faculty members. There is a good mix of mathematically intensive courses for those who enjoy the challenges of formal economic modeling and, more applied courses that do not require calculus and focus on public policies and business.

It covers a wide range of areas such as the economics of money and banking, managerial economics, environmental and resource economics, health economics, urban economics, agricultural economics, labor economics, institutional economics, and international business and trade. The economics discipline is characterized by two vital features. Firstly, it deals with the development and understanding of conceptual models of human behavior to predict responses to changes in policies and market conditions. Secondly, it utilizes mathematical and statistical analysis to investigate economic phenomena.

These include proficiency in mathematical and statistical techniques in analyzing and solving economic problems. This a newly revised applied economics curriculum which is designed to strengthen student鈥檚 understanding and appreciation of economic theories, develop their managerial skills, and enhance their knowledge in the use of mathematical or quantitative tools required in business analysis and decision-making.
